Local area children and teens have been busy making magic happen on stage at The Fly Community Theatre this summer with their upcoming production of "Beauty and the Beast". With a cast of 37, ranging in age from 7 to 16, this marks the largest turnout of participants for the children's program since its post pandemic return in 2022.
Starring Lilee Owens as Beauty and Tre Young as The Beast, the production is set to run with four shows on July 18, 19, 20 and 21. According to Mary Margaret Edwards, all performances have officially sold out.
The Fly Children's Theatre program gives young performers a chance to learn about what it takes to produce a theatrical production both on stage and behind the scenes. Participants are excited to show off their new skills and talents to audiences through their dancing, comedic timing and sword fighting choreography.
"Beauty and the Beast" written by Vera Morris is produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc., Englewood, CO.
Play Summary: As punishment for rebuffing a powerful witch, a selfish prince becomes a true “beast” until someone will love him for himself. Many years later, the Beast has sentenced a poor widow to death for “innocently” picking one of his beloved roses. The Beast is then captivated by the woman’s daughter, Beauty, when she offers to take her mother’s place at the receiving end of his wrath. Will Beauty’s kindness be enough to restore the Beast to his true form?
