The Fly Arts Center Reopens the Bedford County History Museum and Showcases Building Updates

The leadership team of the Bedford County Arts Council has spent the last 18 months repairing and renovating The Fly Arts Center in Shelbyville, where the group is headquartered.
The Fly Arts Center has received several updates over the last 18 months thanks to several grants and generous community donors. Comfortable new seats were installed in the community theatre and capacity was expanded, ADA-compliant bathroom additions were made, the art gallery received an update, a new concession stand was built, a new HVAC system was installed, a new classroom space was made, the original wood floors were refinished and new lighting was placed throughout. However, the largest transformation was a 9-month long update of the Bedford County History Museum located inside of the arts center.
The Fly's President, Jody Barnes-Turner, and her volunteer team worked countless hours examining and organizing the museum's thousands of artifacts to create new, compelling exhibits that tell the many stories of Bedford County and its history. It was the first major update of the museum since the 1990s. Old favorites remained on display, but many new items are now waiting to be discovered by visitors.
The Bedford County Museum, located at 204 S. Main St, Shelbyville, TN, is available to visit during the regular hours and special events of The Fly Arts Center. You can also schedule field trips for school and community groups. Admission is free.
